THE LIVINGS MÉNILMONTANT

Belong to the parisian-by-adoption people who spend time in the Menilmontant district to meet up with friends, go to concerts, set up professional meetings or just wander around when spring comes. This district has experienced a lot of changes over the last couple of years…

Originally a popular district, inhabited by the working classes, it has started welcoming a new generation of inhabitants. Despite the demolitions, which have profoundly changed its appearance, and despite the disappearance of certain popular places, a rebellious spirit, a true interest in other people, and an overall good atmosphere prevail. it is therefore useless to look for the treasures of Menilmontant in its outward appearance. Its true richness lies in its inhabitants. This photographic project is an incursion in the intimacy of this fast-changing district. A sociological inquiry which operating mode is based on the social ties. The aim is to uncover the true spirit of this district by meeting its protagonists, since, as george perec put it, Menilmontant’s inhabitants inhabit their district.
